Lykes Brothers Now Using Globe Wireless

Global Radio Network Extends Electronic Mail to Vessels at Sea

Half Moon Bay, California (June 3)

Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., Inc. has chosen Globe Wireless to handle maritime communications. Lykes Line vessels, as well as those under charter to Lykes, are now using Global Radio Network public coast stations, operated by Globe Wireless, for their ship to shore needs. The Global Radio Network covers the world with coast stations located in Bahrain, California, Louisiana, Newfoundland, New Zealand and Sweden and cooperating stations in Singapore and South Africa.

"A dependable, fast and cost-effective means of getting information to and from the ships is essential to our operation," said Billy Molero, (Operations, Tampa). "The network will also provide a better way of tracking communications costs billed by third parties," he said. Molero is the business lead for Lykes maritime communications team.

"The relationship with Globe Wireless will help Lykes streamline marine communications costs and provide a more reliable radio communication link to its fleet vessels," stated Walter Kane, Senior Sales Manager at Globe Wireless. Kane is in charge of the Lykes Steamship account for Globe Wireless.

Using the Global Radio Network ships listen to any one of the Globe Wireless stations, one or more of which can be heard anywhere in the world at any time of the day. Connecting with any one of these channels will allow a ship to receive all messages anywhere in the world, at one price. The system also makes it easy for the shore-side communicator because the address for the shore-to-ship message is always the same.

Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., with headquarters in Tampa, Florida, provides international logistics service to customers shipping between North America, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean region and Africa.
